What a gem of a clip, the way those two were going at it you would think that you were watching BTCC at twice the speeds

stunning clips! i know you either love him, or hate him, but i was always a big mansell fan. always remember the 87, (i think) british gp at silverstone, he was leading, but got a puncture, so after he came in and changed, he emerged from the pits, (still 2nd i think) approx 30 seconds behind his then team mate at williams, nelson piquet, (they never really saw eye to eye either.) lap after lap he stormed on, setting fastest lap, after fastest lap, caught piquet, and then on the penultimate lap, through piquet a dummy, and pulled a genius pass, and mansell won the race, still to this day, 1 of my favorite races of all time

I have always been a big fan on Mansell. He and Damon Hill are my favourite drivers, and I would always mount a case for Mansell in the top 5 of all time (we had a thread on this on another forum!). Of course those who know me, will have heard my story of meeting Mansell and Prost on a golf course in Portugal......would hate to be boring and retell it here...or would I?!? (PS. What a joke todays result was.)

was that golf course you met tiff at yeah, i'm with ya, to me, mansell was a legend, total balls out racer all the time, always gave 110% remember, those last few laps at monaco, when he tried everything he could to pass senna, 2 of the all time greats.

Exactly Neil. His detractors say he wasn't as naturally gifted as, say, Senna but I say "so what?". Mansell raced at a time when two of the supposed greats (Senna and Prost) were at their peak and there were a number of other gifted drivers out there. He could and did beat all of them regularly and Iloved the 110% all the time. The Tifosi nickname of Il Lion was very apt. By the way my story is this...... I was on a golfing holiday in Portuagl in 89 with a couple of mates - the week before the Portugese Grand Prix. Went to the course one day and found we were 4 games ahead of Mansell & Prost (before their big fall out). How nervous were we teeing off?!? ...duffed shots all round..and a loud English voice - not saying it was Mansell - in the background saying "they must be taking the piss". Anyway being decent players (and having buggies) they were playing quickly and when the time came us three hackers waved them through. When we finished we went to the club house bar and got a beer which we took out on the verandah. Sitting at a table were the pair of them and Mansell called us over...asked which of us was the "bandit" (a golfing term before anyone thinks otherwise) and then bought us a beer.

oh yes, the italians loved him, he had a great following, and no matter what the press reported him as being like, he always thanked his fans, a great guy! cool story mate, and what a result, i'd like to meet him, seems a top fella. still the only man, to go from f1 world champ, straight to indycar champ, back to back, and in his rookie year, top man

Still got the programme and ticket at home somewhere. Couldn't have asked for a better duel on my first visit to a F1 race.

Sorry guys but i have just caught up on what happened yesterday.
F1 is turning into a farce, a team that orders its driver to let another past should be banned.

Went the year after and it rained a lot of the day, still got that program but it's obviously not in such good nick. Also did the GP Bikes at Donnington those 2 years as well. Before that I spent a lot of time at the club circuits watching the Thundersaloons, Formula Fords, bikes etc etc.
