Not so new...

Postby M3V8 » Sun Jun 05, 2016 12:13 am

Hi folks, it's Joe here :)
Long time since I've been on here, hope you're all doing well.

Use to have an E46 M3 Convertible, then sold it for a C55AMG, which I no longer own, I sold that a long time ago to a friend of mine.

I remember, Jeff, Bob & Ian

Here's a pictures from when we met up, years ago...

You'd be pleased to know, that I am back in an M car again, this time it's a 2012 E92 M3 with Competition pack and I love it, I still have an AMG of some sort ;) but I love my M3, it's epic to drive.

Sorry I had to create a new account as I forgot my old one!

Cheers,
Joe

I am fine thanks, and still got the E46 I bought in '08 and also an E36 Evo I bought a couple of years ago (had an Evo back in 2002).

Yours looks great, putting black Performance bits on really suits those! Which white is that? Leather colour?

Nice one, glad you're well and glad to hear you still have your M3. ;)

It's the Alpine white and white individual leather.
The car is a minter, very low miles, I wanted one a bit different and had to have the competition pack..
Nearly went for a c63 coup but I think the E92 M3 is a better over all package.

BMC filter to be fitted end of next week hopefully.
Don't really want to do too much to it, just want to maintain it as best as possible.

Hi Joe,

New car looks good mate. Glad you are enjoying it.

I still have mine.

It's quiet on here these days which is a shame as there are many good guys and good cars on here.

nice motor mate, sorry for lack of replies and yes its very very quiet on here now, tbh I lost interest and didn't push it as much as I should but hey ho see wait the future holds, I'll keep it running for now as its not a bad place for information although some is dated now,

Hope your well and maybe see you about the forum, just dont expect a flurry of replies haha

be lucky ;)

It's taken me an age to lie the E92 and I still think it is ugly from some angles and great from others, put the price really outs me off.

When I bought my original E36 in 2002 it was 5-6 years old, had done 67k and £13.5k. My E46 was same age when I bought it in 2008 on 39k and was £12.5k. - both nicely spec'd.

But now a 6 year old E92 with sub 50k and a decent spec is c£25k, when an M4's can be had for £38k.

Seems mad to me the prices are where they are. If a decent 6year old E92 was £15-18k, I would have one right now but I just can let myself splash £25k on one.

Hi Joe,

your V8 M3 looks great, hope you are enjoying! I assumed I would move on from my E46 M3 to an E92 M3, but I find I am thinking of a Jaguar XKR instead. I have never driven an XKR, but I love the looks and the style. So, convince me I should get an E92 M3 instead.. what do you love about it? Would be very interested in your experiences and joys.

Or, do I stick with my E46 M3 and enjoy it? Its the car I always wanted since it came out in 2001, and I have one, so why do I quest after something else now? I guess only I can answer that question, but some ideas and suggestions will certainly help :)

Cheers,
Steve

piscean57,

I too notice the E92 M3 prices seem to start at £25k, still relatively high. I guess the price of the car was higher as new, though is it higher than the new price of the E46 M3 if the price is adjusted for inflation? Would be interesting to know. Still, if the prices of the E92 stay high, it might meant the later E46 M3's remain at a decent level too :)

Cheers,
Steve

Hello Steve,

On my two examples the value of a 6 year old car was about 35% of the new price. The E92 was a few grand more than the E46 but it looks to me that costs are now more like 50% .

All cars seem to have increased a bit lately, E46 firmed up and people are asking more but even a low miles 04/05 is 'only' at the £12-15k mark (although I have seen some insane prices advertised).

So is a four year old E92 M3 worth at least 2x the price of a 7 year older E46? The market say 'yes' but I can't justify it, especially as they have never been on my bucket list. Buying one for a while and then selling should mean you don't lose much though, unless Brexit kills things when put into action.
